Emily and Richard Makarewicz
Richard Makarewicz has worked on the business side of the entertainment industry for 15 years. Richard graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting and a Minor in Business. In 2007, Richard took an internship at Michael Donovan Casting to gain vital experience. Realizing he wanted to focus on talent representation, Richard accepted a position as the assistant to the Young People’s Department at Kazarian, Spencer & Associates in 2008. Richard worked under a team of three high profile agents, and he had the opportunity to learn how to develop talent and groom them into huge name stars. Over the next two years, KSA’s youth clients booked Series Regular roles on Nickelodeon, ABC, and TBS. While attending a nationwide youth acting showcase with his boss, Richard handpicked some of the top child actors at the event. He was promoted to Junior Agent as a result of his keen eye for talent. In 2010, Richard transitioned to Avalon Artists Group’s theatrical department as the Senior Associate to the owner. He submitted adult talent on the TV and Film breakdowns, pitched to casting, and closed out offers. After working in casting, and at two agencies, Richard decided to launch Apex Talent Group, a talent management company, with his wife in 2011. With a desire for having a stronger personal bond with each client, Richard felt that management was the right direction for his career. Fighting for his clients every day and helping them achieve their goals in the entertainment industry has made Richard an extremely skilled, passionate, driven and successful talent manager.
Emily Makarewicz’s experience in both business and the performing arts gives her the knowledge and ability to guide and develop her clients’ careers in the entertainment industry. Emily attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy for high school, and then The Juilliard School majoring in music as a flutist. While at Juilliard, Emily worked 7 days a week in multiple positions, including ushering for their theatre department, she was a video editor for ABC News, and she also worked as an assistant for a property sales team at Related – a real estate development firm. Simultaneously, Emily had concert appearances with her trio (ETA3), performed in multiple orchestras, and had solo engagements as a flutist throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. After graduating Juilliard with undergraduate and master’s degrees in five years through their accelerated program, Emily landed an assistant position at the esteemed Sotheby’s International Realty on the Upper Eastside – working under 300 real estate agents and brokers who represented high-net-worth individuals and celebrity clientele. She soon acquired her real estate license – later joining the team as an agent at Douglas Elliman. At this point many of her friends from high school and college were now pursuing their careers in L.A. as actors, singers, and dancers. Emily decided it was time for a change and took a leap of faith by relocating across the country. Once she arrived in Los Angeles, over a dozen of her friends started pushing Emily to become their talent manager due to her magnetic personality and sales experience. All of her previous positions and education were extremely impactful for this career change, inspiring Emily to have a passion for developing and managing talent. Around the same time, Emily met Richard – and they hit it off immediately! Quickly falling in love and getting engaged, Emily realized starting a talent management company for actors and musicians with her then husband would be a perfect fit. Through their mutual expertise, Emily and Richard co-founded Apex Talent Group in the fall of 2011. Emily's personal knowledge from live performances helps her steer the careers of her clients, especially related to musical theatre singers and dancers. Discovering fresh, new talent and helping them achieve their dreams is extremely important and rewarding to Emily.
